Designer Bill James to Present at Wright Sites x PechaKucha
Wright Sites x PechaKucha is a celebration in honor of Frank Lloyd Wright’s 153rd birthday; presentations will offer rare and unique insights into his career and design legacy. This live-stream event is a collaboration between The Westcott House Foundation, Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy, Wright sites across the nation, and PechaKucha. This free event is scheduled for Monday, June 8, 2020, at 9:00 p.m. EST and will feature curators and speakers from various Frank Lloyd Wright sites. Full event details can be found here.
“Our Frank Lloyd Wright community has rallied together since day one of the pandemic, which forced the closings of Wright sites across the country,” says Marta Wojcik, Executive Director & Curator of the Westcott House. “This special live-stream PechaKucha event will connect and delight Frank Lloyd Wright fans, architects, and design aficionados across the globe with highly unique stories and perspectives.”
PechaKuchas are short 400-second presentations consisting of 20 image-based slides that automatically advance after 20 seconds. This highly visual and efficient presentation style will provide audiences with a diverse perspective. Among the featured presenters is Bohlin Cywinski Jackson Designer, Bill James, who will share his career journey studying and designing Wright-related projects.
Bill James has collaborated on iconic projects, including the High Meadow Residence and Studio at Fallingwater, the Pennsylvania State University Health and Human Development Building, House on an Isthmus, and the Reduction Residence. His portfolio also includes ongoing work with the Westcott House on the design of an education and visitor pavilion. Bill has a particular interest in hardware design, working with teams to develop hardware such as door handles and cabinet pulls. A proponent of mentorship and continuing education opportunities, Bill has helped lead hands-on, design-build studios in conjunction with his alma mater, Miami University, at both the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Westcott House and Fallingwater.
“It’s been such a joy to work on Wright sites in my professional career when they were so instrumental to my development as an architectural student. Being able to collaborate with the wonderful people who steward them, and assist them in furthering their mission, has been one of my greatest honors.” — Bill James
Wright Sites x PechaKucha is sure to be a memorable evening. We hope you will tune-in from the comfort of your home for an architecture tour across the country. For those who miss the live-stream, presentations will be available to view on the website 24 hours after the event.
